Former Arsenal transfer chief Dick Law reveals the deal was completed before Vardy changed his mind overnight
Arsenal had all but signed Vardy in 2016 for a fee of £20m says Dick Law.
Law spent 13 years at Arsenal from 2005 to 2018 and was in charge of the deal for Jamie saying ‘the deal was done’
Jamie Vardy and his wife Rebekah visited the Emirates after verbally agreeing a deal.
‘He came down to visit with his wife Rebekah, he sat on the couch in front of Arsene… and then he backed off.
‘On his way back to Leicester I get a call from the player saying he wants to think about it overnight.
‘At that point, you know it’s bad news.’
Jamie decided that staying at Leicester was the best option for him and rejected a move to London after meeting with Wenger.
Arsenal have since finished above the Foxes for three consecutive seasons since Vardy rejected the Gunners in 2016.
Having enjoyed a prolific season this campaign scoring 19 goals, Jamie again has his eyes set on the Champions League with just 9 games remaining with the Foxes sitting in third place.
Arsenal, meanwhile sit in 9th.
Vardy made the right decision to stay with Leicester and will go down in the clubs history as a legend.
We salute you, Jamie.
